Manu Vatuvei tackles community health

Vodafone Warriors winger Manu Vatuvei is urging his South Auckland community to improve their health by getting their homes insulated.

Vatuvei is fronting Warm Up New Zealand: Healthy Homes, which provides free insulation for people at health risk from conditions related to cold, damp housing.

“I’m really passionate about doing what I can to help,” he said.

“I know what living conditions are like for so many people in South Auckland. There are big health problems but a lot of them could be avoided by insulating homes. Through Warm Up New Zealand: Healthy Homes, people have the chance to do something about it.

“An insulated home is healthier for your family and easier to heat. Your family won’t get sick as much if your home is warmer.”

Vatuvei will promote the benefits of insulation on the big screen at the Vodafone Warriors’ NRL match against the Brisbane Broncos at Mount Smart Stadium on Saturday night.

Providers offering free insulation will be in the Red Zone at the northern end of the ground to sign up people if they are eligible.

Vatuvei is also encouraging people with spare curtains to bring them along to the game and drop them off at Greenstar Energy Solutions, which runs a curtain bank in South Auckland.

Warm Up New Zealand is run by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA).

EECA’s Residential General Manager Robert Linterman is delighted Vatuvei is helping promote the benefits of insulation in his Auckland community.

“EECA is excited about the opportunity to work with Manu and the Vodafone Warriors to improve the lives of South Auckland families by insulating their homes,” he said.

“This is a great cause and we really appreciate Manu's and the Vodafone Warriors’ support.”
