National injury prevention conference launched
Injury Prevention Aotearoa has today launched its national injury prevention conference with a call for abstracts and registrations.
The conference is being held at Te Papa, Wellington on 6 & 7 November 2014 and is titled ‘In our own Backyard’ which reflects the fact that the conference will be solely focused on New Zealand and the wealth of injury prevention knowledge and expertise that is ‘in our own backyard’.
“We’re really excited to be bringing the injury sector together again at our biennial conference.” says Justine Ropata, General Manager, Injury Prevention Aotearoa. “This is the only conference that brings together all injury areas and provides an opportunity to network and share current best practice, research and knowledge at all levels – from community through to government level. Our programme is still in development but we’re delighted to have secured entertainer and mental health advocate Mike King as MC for day one and a number of renowned keynote and guest speakers.”
“We’d like to encourage anyone in the injury or health sector that has a great story to tell regarding initiatives and programmes to reduce or prevent injury to submit an abstract for the conference. Likewise there are many talented people out there furthering knowledge through research and evaluation that we’d love to hear from.”
Further information about submitting an abstract is available at www.injuryprevention.org.nz. Registrations are also open. The two-day programme earlybird fee is $350 with day tickets also available.
Injury Prevention Aotearoa (formerly known as Injury Prevention Network of Aotearoa New Zealand) has over 700 members from around New Zealand that work in, or have an interest in, preventing and reducing injury across a wide range of injury areas, including: falls, alcohol and drug harm, suicide, family violence, traffic and assault. Membership is free of charge. For more information visit www.injuryprevention.org.nz.
