Plunket celebrates International Nurses Day
Today Plunket will celebrate International Nurses Day, marked by the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale.
Plunket CEO Jenny Prince says that nurses make a huge contribution to society and are often unsung heroes.
“Plunket nurses have been a part of New Zealander’s lives for over 100 years, giving parents the advice and support they need to nurture healthy, happy kiwi babies.
“Whether it is nurses that are invited into the home, those that meet the families at the clinics, or the skilled staff that operate PlunketLine, our nurses are a New Zealand icon and part of the fabric of our communities.
“As well as being registered nurses, Plunket nurses have a postgraduate qualification in child and family health promotion. That enables them to offer high standards of expertise and a range of services when working alongside New Zealand families.
“Parenting is one of the most challenging, but also one of the most rewarding and important jobs in our lifetime and all parents and caregivers need some support and reassurance.
“Plunket nurses see 9 out of 10 newborn babies every year in New Zealand and have played a vital role in many lives at a very special, but also challenging time. It’s great to have the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate that and thank Plunket nurses, past and present, for their contribution.”
