MidCentral DHB celebrates International Nurses Day

MidCentral District Health Board celebrates International Nurses Day
9 May 2014

International Nurses Day is Monday 12 May, and MidCentral District Health Board and Central PHO want to recognise the fantastic contribution that close to 2000 nurses make every day of the year within the district.

The International Nurses Day theme this year is ‘Nurses: A Force for Change – A vital resource for health’. Nurses are the single largest segment of our district’s workforce, and they are responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the hundreds of people who access healthcare every day.

MDHB’s recently appointed Director of Nursing Michele Coghlan, has been very impressed by the standard of nursing that she has seen since her move to the organisation.

“One of the reasons I moved to MidCentral DHB was its reputation for upholding the highest healthcare standards. Since I started this job, I have been impressed time and again by the hard work that our nurses put in to care for patients.”

Director of Nursing Primary Health Care Chiquita Hansen believes nursing contributes across the health continuum from prevention to improving the health and wellbeing of a wide range of populations. Ms Hansen is adamant an educated nurse workforce, a good work environment, and high functioning teams, equals high quality care.

High quality care is driven by nurses, and both Directors of Nursing are committed to working in partnership to ensure that nurses continue to be a vital force for change across MidCentral District.
