Finally, A Funding Decision On Grey Hospital
“West Coasters and the people providing health services there will sleep easier tonight knowing the Government has finally signed off on the business case for funding of the Grey Hospital rebuild,” says Ian Powell, Executive Director of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists (ASMS).
“It’s been a while coming and there were a few wrong turns but we’re glad the Government heard what senior doctors and other health professionals were telling them about the Coast’s requirements for services.”
“We’re glad that at last Health Minister Tony Ryall has recognised the involvement of senior doctors and others on the West Coast as it has been a long and often difficult process to get to this point,” says Mr Powell.
“We would especially like to acknowledge the efforts of ASMS Branch President Paul Holt, who courageously spoke out against earlier attempts to reduce services on the West Coast by reneging on a previous agreement.”
“We will be taking a closer look at the detail of the Minister’s announcement but we are pleased that people living on the West Coast and the health professionals working at Grey Hospital have some certainty now about the Government’s plans.”
