HIV prevention not possible without community support
The New Zealand AIDS Foundation is deeply grateful for the support it receives from the community. Without that support,
preventing HIV would be a difficult task.
“Combating an infectious disease such as HIV is like having a tiger by the tail, you can never let go or ease up or it
will get loose again. Promoting safe sex is as important today as it ever was and to do that effectively we need money.
The money people donate helps to protect lives,” says Shaun Robinson, Executive Director, NZAF.
At this year’s LYC Big Gay Out, Urge Bar & Caluzzi Cabaret hosted the Beer Garden and Dance Tents at the daylong event and raised a total of $13,551.99. Plus
around 30 volunteers worked tirelessly on the day to set up and ensure everything ran smoothly.
New Zealand has some of the lowest numbers of HIV infection in the world. The NZAF is very proud of this trend. The low
numbers have been achieved through consistent work over the years and keeping the efforts up is vital for it to
continue.
Urge Bar & Caluzzi Cabaret will hand over a cheque from the proceeds of the Beer Garden & Dance Tents at Caluzzi bar on Wednesday, April 09 just after 7 pm.
