Aged between 15 to 18? Want to make a difference?
Wellington, April 4th 2014 - Youthline Wellington is currently recruiting for its Youth Development Programme starting
The free programme aims to increase confidence, provide job opportunities and develop new friendships for young people,
via a variety of team activities and creative projects that will provide challenges and opportunities for attendees to
develop key life skills.
Fifteen to twenty young people are selected for the programme. Applicants must be aged between 15 to 18.
The programme starts with a weekend camp 9th- 11th May at Silverstream Camp in Lower Hutt, then with twelve fortnightly
sessions, starting Wednesday 21st May from 4 – 7:30pm, based at Evolve in the James Smith building in central Wellington
and the opportunity to connect with Youthline’s Youth Rep group socially on a fortnightly basis. There are also two
weekend day trips that include fun activities such as outdoor adventure courses or barista training, and a weekend stay
at Tapu Te Ranga Marae in Island Bay.
All activities will be supported by two youth workers and Youthline Wellington’s youth development co-ordinator.
Participants from the 2013 programme spoke highly of the programme, with many citing the ‘strong’ friendships and
connections made and the inspirational talks given as a highlight, which along with the activities, had given them more
confidence for entering the job market and undertaking other endeavours.
There will be a graduation ceremony at the conclusion of the programme at the end of October, and graduates will be
given the opportunity to be further involved in Youthline, by joining the Youth Reps, working in the community or
training to be a counsellor (once they’re 18).
An information evening for perspective applicants and parents and caregivers, will be held on Wednesday 16th April at
the Youthline office, Level 3, 148 Cuba Street from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Youth workers will be available to answer questions,
and attendees will be able to apply for the programme.
Applications close 5pm 2nd May 2014.
