College of GPs takes stake in Best Practice Advocacy Centrenz
The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners has become a shareholder in medical education provider Best Practice Advocacy Centrenz (bpacnz).
The Best Practice Advocacy Centrenz, established in 2003, advocates for best practice in healthcare treatments and investigations across a wide range of health service delivery areas. It provides evidence-based, educational guidance for primary health care professionals in New Zealand.
It also publishes the Best Practice Journal and Best Tests which are developed in conjunction with its Clinical Advisory Group which includes representatives from primary and secondary care, along with guidance from leading clinicians around New Zealand.
The College has been an observer on the bpacnz Board, and College President Dr Tim Malloy was appointed a Director in October 2013.
Dr Malloy says “the College welcomes the opportunity to contribute at governance level to an organisation that provides valuable educational and continuing professional development programmes to medical practitioners and other health groups throughout New Zealand.
“Becoming a shareholder will benefit both parties, and we were very pleased to accept the offer from the bpacnz Board inviting the College to do so.”
The other five shareholders in bpacnz are:
· General Practice New Zealand (previously IPA Council of New Zealand Incorporated)
· South Link Health Incorporated
· University of Otago Holdings Limited
· ProCare Health Limited
· Pegasus Health (Charitable) Limited.
