National Hearing Week: Assistance available
21 March 2014
Hearing the birds chirp or children laughing is often taken for granted. For those who are hearing-impaired, today’s technology can work miracles.
For Hearing Week 2014 (23-29 March), The National Foundation for the Deaf is highlighting the importance of technology aids and their benefits on the lives of hearing-impaired people.
The Enable New Zealand Disability Information Service can provide assistance and information on how to access:
• Hearing aid funding or subsidy and who to contact for an assessment
• Funding for hearing loss related equipment and who to contact for an assessment
• Equipment and supplier information relating to hearing loss e.g. flashing and/or vibrating smoke alarms, hearing aid suppliers
• Support groups and/or services relating to hearing loss conditions e.g. Deaf Aotearoa, Hearing Association, etc.
• Where you can go if you need to get your hearing checked.
Contact the Disability Information Service at Enable New Zealand on 0800 17 19 81 for information, assistance and support.
