Top Gynaes to speak at Insight Endometriosis Seminar
Waikato women, teenage girls and health professionals will benefit from a presentation by gynaecologists VP Singh and Lakshmi Ravikanti on “Endometriosis Treatment Options” on Wednesday 26 March. The meeting will be held at CCS Disability Action, 17 Claudelands Road, Hamilton, from 7pm.
The seminar is part of an education programme offered by Insight Endometriosis, a community organisation supporting women with endometriosis.
Insight Endometriosis educator Annette Evans, said “We are delighted to host speakers of this calibre. A special invitation is extended to women of all ages including teen girls and their parents as well as health professionals.”
VP Singh is a well-known local gynaecologist specialising in endometriosis and is also Medical Director of Fertility Associates Hamilton. Lakshmi Ravikanti was selected as New Zealand’s Young Gynaecologist of the Year in March 2009.
Endometriosis is a significant condition and common condition, which can dramatically impair quality of life.
The most common symptom of endometriosis is period pain, characterised by taking pain relief, bed rest and time off work or studies. Endometriosis is also a leading cause of fertility problems.
Annette said “Many women are diagnosed as a result of fertility investigations yet experienced period pain for often half a lifetime. Women and teen girls need to seek help when period pain affects their lifestyle. Their GP can refer them to a gynaecologist specialising in endometriosis, or they can self-refer to a gynaecologist in private practice.”
‘Insight Endometriosis supports women to make informed decisions about treatment options and lifestyle changes, and ensures that women and their families aren’t left facing a significant health problem in isolation’, she said.
Insight Endometriosis extends a huge thank you to Dr’s Ravikanti and Singh for giving up their time and sharing their expertise. Thanks also to CCS Disability Action for providing the venue.
