Professional development app for physios launched
Physiotherapy New Zealand today announced the launch of a new smartphone app for physiotherapists wanting to track their professional development with the push of a button.
Created by New Zealand company Log It Apps, the tool allows physios to easily log their hours of professional development, capture evidence using their phone's camera and create a secure back up which can then be emailed to their own computer and sent on to the Physiotherapy Board for an audit.
Physiotherapy New Zealand president Gill Stotter says physios in New Zealand are required to complete 100 hours of professional development every three years to retain their annual practising certificate.
"As you can imagine keeping track of these 100 hours, including evidence like certificates can be a bit of a nightmare - so we've been searching for a tool that removes the hassle of recording professional development and collecting evidence - I'd say we've found it!"
The app has been created by two New Zealand physiotherapists, Mark Shirley and Kurt Thomas, along with developer Neil McKenzie.
Co-founder Kurt Thomas says he hopes the app will take the stress out of being audited, which can happen at random to any practising physio, by making recording of CPD easier and always accessible.
“Mark and I have both had to put logbooks together in the last few years and it takes a lot of time. We wanted to figure out an easier way that let us fill in a logbook straight away – before we even headed home.”
“This was the basis for developing the app. It’s a way of tracking all those small activities that you may forget about that quickly add up in hours, it’s perfect for ensuring you keep up with your professional development requirements.”
The app is now available for download from the Apple and Android app store by searching 'Physio Logitapp.'
The app is free for all Physiotherapy New Zealand members, more information on www.physiotherapy.org.nz
