New Free Health Magazine For Pacific People

New Free Health Magazine For Pacific People

Providing key information and content to help improve the general health of New Zealand’s Pacific population is behind the launch of Pacific Peoples Health, a FREE publication reaching Pacific people in Auckland, where two-thirds of the nation’s Pacific population lives.

Pacific Peoples Health has launched as a flip-side publication with the 2013/14 summer edition of SPASIFIK, a respected and established magazine within the Pacific community which has published 59 issues bi-monthly over the past decade.

SPASIFIK editor and publisher Innes Logan says it’s increasingly clear Pacific people will positively respond to content they identify with, but need greater awareness of the services available, of which many are free or made as affordable as possible.

“Due to a variety of socio-economic factors, the lack of engagement is concerning, particularly as the needs of Pacific people are greater in virtually all categories,” says Mr Logan.
“But SPASIFIK has been effective in reaching a Pacific audience. Providing the publication free throughout the community in Auckland will substantially increase that reach.”

Content is based on creating greater self-awareness of one’s own health and of those around them to finding solutions and services available to pressing health issues, including obesity and diabetes, smoking and rheumatic fever. Pacific Peoples Health provides a strengths-based focus, with practical help and advice, utilising Pacific people who are experts in their respective health fields.
