College of Chiropractic Team Wins NZAPEP Sector Awards


On Wednesday 4 Septmber at the New Zealand Association of Private Education Providers (NZAPEP) Awards Dinner held in Wellington, Dr. Kelly Holt Research Fellow and students Jens Duehr and Bronwyn Hunt from the New Zealand College of Chiropractic were recognised for their outstanding achievements in private education. NZAPEP represents private tertiary institutions in New Zealand and is recognised by the Government as the main representative of private providers.


“We are really pleased for our research staff and students to have been recognised by NZAPEP,” said Dr. Phil McMaster, President. “Our research and academic programmes are recognised as world class and it is fantastic to see our team recognised for their contribution to chiropractic” said Phil.


Student Jens Duehr, a final year chiropractic student, won Student of the Year for his work in research and involvement in student groups such as the World Congress of Chiropractic Students where he was previously head of fundraising.


Student Bronwyn Hunt, a second year chiropractic student, won International Student of the Year. Sh e is President of the Chiropractic Student Association and a member of the World Congress of Chiropractic Students. She started the Outdoors Club and works as the student Health and Safety Officer.


Dr. Kelly Holt, a research fellow and faculty member was jointly awarded the Margaret Yates Scholarship with another nominee. Awarded annually, this scholarship supports those undertaking academic projects, undergraduate or postgraduate study, or advancing areas of expertise to further their professional development. An inaugural graduate of the New Zealand College of Chiropractic, Dr Holt was awarded his Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science with distinction in 2009. He is currently in the final year of his PhD and has published 14 papers in peer reviewed journals. In 2012 he was awarded the Alumni Association’s Chiropractor of the Year Award.


The New Zealand College of Chiropractic was founded in 1994 and is a world renowned chiropractic training institution offering the Bachelor of Chiropractic degree. The College is accredited by both the Council on Chiropractic Education Australasia and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.
