Hub to showcase health innovation
Hapai Te Hauora & Ngati Whatua Orakei
5th September 2013
Interactive health technology will feature at Atamira Maori in the City this weekend as more than twenty health
organisations unite to showcase health as part of the event’s Hauora (Health) Hub.
The Hauora Hub, co-hosted by Ngati Whatua Orakei and Hapai Te Hauora, will give health providers the chance to engage
attendees on key health messages. This year many providers will be drawing on technology to interact with audiences.
Malina Parkinson of Te Runanga o Ngati Whatua will be using touchscreen technology and a video booth to interact with
and support youth leadership and action on alcohol legislation changes. “We need to be innovative and encourage youth
inclusion and opinion. Doing things in this way really gets young people interested and coming forward to participate on
topics that they might otherwise steer clear of” Says Miss Parkinson. Other providers are using photo booths and social
media to spread health messages.
Ants Hawke of Hapai Te Hauora is passionate about the health sector reaching beyond the clinic to raise awareness of
health and ultimately make health improvements. “Connecting with people in their everyday lives or where they socialise
or work can do wonders in raising awareness of health, normalising health and improving access to health services,” says
Mr Hawke.
Public can expect to have an enjoyable experience and the chance to win prizes by attending the Hauora Hub at Atamira
Maori in the City this weekend.
