Fonterra Milk for Schools Launches in the Manawatu And Wanganui
Not a drop of milk was left in sight after school children across the Manawatu and Wanganui took their first slurps of
Fonterra Milk for Schools milk this morning.
More than 100 schools across the region with primary-aged school children Years 1 - 6 have signed up and will be
receiving a daily dose of dairy nutrition every school day by the end of term three.
Fonterra Director of Social Responsibility and Sustainability, Carly Robinson, said it was great to see so many schools
in the Manawatu and Wanganui enthusiastic and ready to participate in the programme.
“Milk is an important building block for good nutrition and we are very proud to be working with and have the support of
schools in the Manawatu and Wanganui to bring Fonterra Milk for Schools to life.”
One of the first schools to begin drinking in the area, Riverdale School, hosted 26 school children from 12 schools
across the region for a morning of Fonterra Milk for Schools themed activities.
Riverdale School Principal, Debra Peck, said the children enjoyed a tour of one of Fonterra’s farmer shareholders farms
to learn about where their milk comes from, participated in riparian planting, and took a trip to Fonterra’s Research
and Development Centre to learn about the goodness of milk.
“Signing up for Fonterra Milk for Schools was an easy decision. Not only will milk in schools allow our children to grow
up strong and healthy, but it will give them the best kick-start to the day enabling them to concentrate and learn.
“We now have 360 students who have chosen to take part in the programme. Each child was very excited to see the
programme roll in to Riverdale School today.”
Fonterra Milk for Schools will soon make its way to the Hawkes Bay with the national rollout expected to be complete by
the end of term one 2014. There are now 750 schools across the country signed-up and drinking.
