Waipareira Staff Recognised By Professor Matt Sanders
Te Whanau O Waipareira will host the founder of the world-class positive parenting programme.
Next week Professor Matt Sanders – himself a west Aucklander – will present 32 awards - 13 of those to Waipareira
kaimahi - who have qualified as Triple P practitioners.
The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program is a parenting and family support system designed to prevent – as well as
treat – behavioural and emotional problems in children and teenagers. The Triple P programme is used around the world.
Waipareira CEO John Tamihere says it is a real privilege to have the esteemed Professor Sanders in Whanau House for
Tuesday’s ceremony.
“It’s an honour to have Matt in Whanau Centre to present the certificates to our kaimahi and we congratulate all those
who have achieved their accreditation,” John said.
“Triple P is a leading edge programme and it’s very positive for our staff to be able to deliver such a renowned
programme with their new tohu.”
Waipareira Triple P practitioner Sarah Tailby says they are excited about the visit and can’t wait to pick his brains.
“Professor Sanders’ visit will inspire many of us who have become Triple P practitioners. Even though it’s great we’re
now Triple P professionals, we are a little overwhelmed with the additional work on top our current mahi (work),” Sarah
said.
“But I’m sure Professor Sanders will share his aspirational vision, which will empower us to carry out the work he has
worked so hard to develop, benefiting families across the world,” she says.
The Triple P parenting system has helped approximately six million children and their families around the world. It is
used in more than 20 countries and has been translated into 18 languages. More than 55,000 practitioners have been
trained it its delivery.
It is a free programme, which has high level outcomes for the wellbeing of children and teenagers around their
confidence, resilience and behavior, supporting parents to work out what they want to change and how they can change it.
