Alzheimers New Zealand welcomes care improvement pledge
Alzheimers NZ has welcomed the announcement that Ryman Healthcare will take steps to ensure quality care for residents
at Wellington’s Malvina Major Retirement Village.
Alzheimers NZ Executive Director, Catherine Hall, says, “At Alzheimers NZ, we believe that people affected by dementia
should receive high quality, personalised care in a supported and safe environment.
“At all stages of the condition, those affected deserve to be treated as individuals, with their care shaped around
their personality and preferences.”
Ms Hall added, “It is our view that situations such as the one reported at Malvina Major Retirement Village should never
occur. Nevertheless, we acknowledge that Ryman Healthcare has apologised and we encourage them to follow through on the
steps they have outlined to ensure that all patients receive the care and respect they deserve.”
