New Chair for ANZCA’s New Zealand National Committee
Dr Nigel Robertson, a specialist anaesthetist at Auckland City Hospital, is the new head of New Zealand’s largest

College of Anaesthetists at the beginning of July.
Dr Robertson was born and educated in Scotland, completing his medical degree at the University of Edinburgh. After
commencing anaesthesia training in Scotland, he immigrated to New Zealand and completed his specialist training in
Auckland before being appointed to the Auckland Hospital Department of Anaesthesia in 1991. His clinical specialty
interests include neuroanaesthesia and major orthopaedics.
In 2000, Dr Robertson was seconded to the building programme for the new Auckland City Hospital and spent four years as

clinical user interface and major equipment project delivery.
In 2003, he was appointed Clinical Director of the Adult and Trauma Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine
at Auckland District Health Board (holding that position for six years), and led the transition into the new building.
Dr Robertson has served on ANZCA’s New Zealand National Committee (NZNC) since mid-2009, including as deputy chair
2011-2013.
