Mental Blocks Art Fund Calls for Proposals from Interested Artists
Changing Minds is currently accepting applications for creative project grants which align with their organisational mission: Leading Brave Conversations to Redefine Mental Health and Addictions in Aotearoa. Grants of up to $2000 may be applied for.
Changing Minds believes in creative expression – both as a tool for exploration and a mechanism for social change. “The Mental Blocks Creative Arts Competition aims to generate new works across multiple mediums exploring the idea of ‘brave conversations’, relating it to the wider social and political contexts of Aotearoa”, says Ainslie Gee, manager of Changing Minds. The goal is to encourage applicants to explore their own creativity, and provide the public with a multi-faceted exhibition which challenges the boundaries of the current discourse on well-being.
We will take applications from people who want to produce work(s) in any or all of the following mediums: painting, illustration, music, film, theatre, photography, written word, spoken word, installation, etc. The Fund is seeking proposals that connect storytelling and art in creative and high-impact ways. Proposals should attempt to do one or more of the following:
• Redefine the way New Zealanders think and
talk about health, wellbeing, addiction, homelessness and/or
other related social justice issues.
• Broaden or
challenge the language and discourse we employ to talk about
health, wellbeing, addiction, and/or
homelessness.
• Celebrate diverse human experience and
encourage self-determination.
• Examine the wider
social and political context of mental health issues,
addiction, or homelessness.
The exact dates are as
follows:
• Applications are due: Friday 30 August
2013, before 5pm.
• Winners to be announced: 7
October 2013
• Works to be submitted by: 31 January
