Save Lives By Boosting Self Esteem on - International Self Esteem Day 26 June

Research indicates and attitude specialist Janice Davies passionately believes that low self-esteem is a key contributor to many of our social and educational problems. Driven by her desire to make a difference, Davies, has created the annual international Self Esteem Day recently renamed Selfday, to be celebrated on June the 26th. As the president of International Council of Self Esteem, this year the event in spreading to 140 countries around the world.

Selfday aims to inspire the practice of self belief and confidence amongst New Zealanders and globally. The charitable non-profit organization is dedicated to sharing free resources to create awareness and motivate action to help enhance human effectiveness and to build healthy self confidence

Bullied herself at high school it affected her self esteem and it took 20 years to turn her life around. In her work she encounters many people work with low self esteem but it is in our schools, homes and communities as well, she said.  It shows up at work with stress and absenteeism, it shows up in families with break ups, teens with suicides, through drugs and other negative behaviour.

Selfday, aims not only to bring esteem awareness, but to jump start people into action, to take care and honor themselves. Job losses and scarcity, bullying, financial challenges, winter ills and doom and gloom, relationship or health upsets can have people negative and ‘out of sorts’”.

Janice had to take her own advice after when then she collapsed and died on 6th October 2010. She’s had to resurrect herself, her business after the recession and walks her talk, and has lost her home and relationship but still is teaching others to believe in themselves and learn to have faith in their own abilities.

Everyone can learn to believe or re-believe in themselves and especially in this climate remind themselves they may not have caused the event though they are experiencing it.  Unless one does, we function from a place of fear and scarcity which often manifests in the opposite of what most of us truly desire.

Davies shares from over 20 years of working with groups and individuals teaching self empowerment, from Playcentre groups to corporates. Each year Janice taps into another avenue to spread the self esteem word and along with a group of dynamic online businesses are committed to expanding the self nurture message, plus with the help of national media, Selfday is continuing to gain momentum and encourage awareness.

The public is invited to get involved by engaging in 5 activities to boost their own esteem, 5 activities to boost another person’s esteem and 1 community activity.
