Chair of New Zealand Health Innovation Hub’s scientific sub-committee appointed

Chairman of the New Zealand Health Innovation Hub Dr Murray Horn is delighted to announce Sir Peter Gluckman’s appointment as Chair of its Technical and Scientific Advisory sub-committee.

The Technical and Scientific Advisory sub-committee will engage in assessing and assisting those with ideas that will lead to improved health outcomes either through break-through technology, devices, research or treatment regimes.

Dr Horn says the Hub has been created to strengthen partnerships between New Zealand’s healthcare sector, industry and research organisations so we can fast-track the development of new health technologies and service innovations.

“It is a real honour to have Sir Peter heading the scientific sub-committee, he has committed considerable effort to promoting the public understanding of science and made himself widely available,” Dr Horn says.

“Sir Peter is one of New Zealand’s best known scientists and an international advocate for science, promoting the translation of discoveries in biomedical research into improvements in long term health outcomes. His research has won him numerous awards and international recognition.”

Sir Peter co-founded the world-class Liggins Institute and the LENScience educational programme for secondary school pupils and is the author of more than 500 scientific papers and reviews and editor of eight books, including three influential textbooks in his subject area of evolution, development and disease.
