New Maori Service Supports World Smokefree Day
New Maori Service Supports World Smokefree Day
The new Maori Tobacco Control Leadership Service to be run by Hapai Te Hauora Tapui and ASH supports World Smokefree Day this Friday 31 May. This new service has been established to reduce tobacco related harm inequalities for Māori.
Aligning with important days such as World Smokefree Day will be an important part of the new service for Hapai CEO Lance Norman. “Supporting whole whanau to be auahi kore/smokefree is crucial. We know if we have the whole whanau going smokefree there is less likelihood kids will pick it up, and more likelihood kids and babies will breathe fresh healthy air” Says Mr Norman.
Hapai are backing the call this World Smokefree Day for whanau to give quitting a go. “We know it can take several attempts to quit so it is important that people don’t feel like they have failed. There are people there to help” says Mr Norman.
“With this new service we are looking forward to strengthening the connection between Maori communities and the auahi kore/smokefree kaupapa. We are very pleased about this new service and about supporting important days like World Smokefree Day into the future”.
