NZACA Welcomes Increased Funding For Quality Initiative

NZACA Welcomes Increased Funding For Quality Initiative

The NZ Aged Care Association welcomes today’s announcement of an additional $1.5 million dollars for the national roll out of an IT based comprehensive clinical assessment (CCA) tool known as ‘interRAI’.

“We have consistently raised concerns with the Government about the funding of this quality initiative. As such we are happy to see that our concerns have been listened to and the additional $1.5 million will go some way to addressing the funding issues.”

NZACA has been working collaboratively with DHBs and the Ministry of Health on the interRAI roll out.

A successful roll out will mean about 2000 aged care nurses, in around 690 aged care facilities, being trained in the use of interRAI by 1 July 2015.

The use of interRAI is leading to better assessments and better care planning, which results in better outcomes for the elderly in care. It also provides valuable clinical data that can be used for bench marking and evidenced based policy development.
