A Hikoi for Healthy Choices
A Hikoi for Healthy Choices
Could you imagine being branded as an outsider in the society in which you live and then forcibly fed medications that seem to do no good? In fact they seem to turn you into the outsider that you feared that you were becoming. That’s the fate of some mental health patients. Two centuries ago it was not uncommon for husbands to send their disobedient wives to madhouses and, in the United States, slaves who tried to run away were deemed to be insane just because they wanted to run away.
All is not well, even yet. The next guest In Conversation with Noel Cheer on Face Television is Annie Chapman who is concerned that some patients in New Zealand today are not getting a fair deal. So concerned is she that she is walking from the far North to Wellington – a hikoi for healthy choices. She will arrive in Wellington late in May.
"In Conversation with Noel Cheer", Face Television, Monday April 8th at 7:00pm, repeated on Tuesday April 9th at 12 noon.
