Sale of New Apartment to Provide Rare Gift to Starship Children’s Hospital
It is rare for a charity to be gifted a property by a living donor. However, more than $300,000 was today pledged to the
Starship Foundation, and will be funded from the sale of an apartment in a newly renovated complex currently being built
in Manukau, Auckland.
Listed for sale early last month by property owner M Central, the money from the sale of the two-bedroom apartment will
help provide world-class healthcare for ill and injured children visiting Starship Children’s Hospital. Starship has
more than 120,000 patient visits from children from all across the country each year. Approximately 15% of Starship
admissions come from the Counties Manukau area.
Managing Director of M Central, Richard Jamieson, and his wife Margo are passionate supporters of Starship and wanted to
give back to the wider community.
“Starship is a wonderful cause providing the very best medical care to children day in and day out,” says Mr Jamieson.
“As a dad, I recognise the vital role Starship fulfils throughout New Zealand. I felt it important for us to support a
cause that positively impacts the future of our children, families and communities both in Manukau and nationally.”

more usual to receive these through bequests. It is an extraordinary privilege to be able to thank donors such as
Richard and Margo face-to-face. Through M Central and the sale of this apartment we are able to continue to provide
life-saving services and care to children when they need it most.”
The sale of the contemporary apartment is part of the rejuvenated M Central complex at 17 Putney Way, Manukau.
Award-winning architects Leuschke Group is revitalising the building which will sit in the heart of Manukau’s new urban
centre, just 50m walk from the soon-to-open Manukau Institute of Technology campus and train station, directly opposite
the proposed Transport Hub and adjacent to Hayman Park.
Due for completion in mid-2014, M Central will stand 11 storeys high, and feature 114 contemporary high stud one, two,
three and four bedroom apartments starting from $226,000. Spectacular views will be available over the surrounding city
