Health Star Pacific will be at the ASB Polyfest again this year promoting Immunisation, the Mana Kidz program to reduce incidence of rheumatic fever in South Auckland and promoting Breast Screening.

As the Pacific provider for these services, Health Star Pacific takes a proactive approach in getting the message out to the Pacific communities.

The Prime Minister has set ten whole-of-government key results area which includes increased in infant immunisation and reduced incidence of rheumatic fever.

For Breast Screening the message is simple, “Pacific women are amongst the 600 women dying of breast cancer in NZ every year. If you’re 45 – 69 years old, you can enrol now for your free mammogram. To help reduce this number, Pacific women need to come forth to be screened. Early detection is the best protection,” says Ruta A’aitui.

The ASB Polyfest is the largest Maori & Pacific Island cultural festival in the world. Last year’s festival attracted 95,000 spectators, and 9000 students competing in 192 groups from 65 schools.

The festival is an iconic Auckland event which is now in its 38th year. It is a celebration of colour, music and dance, and promotes cultural awareness and understanding.

The 2013 ASB Polyfest takes place from the 13th – 16th of March at the Manukau Sports Bowl, Te Irirangi Drive, Manukau. It will feature traditional music, dance, costume and speech from school performing groups, and will bring the pride and passion of Auckland’s Maori and Pacific Island communities to life.

Students will compete on five stages - Cook Islands, Maori, Niue, Samoan and Tongan. There will also be a Diversity Stage featuring performances from a range of cultural groups including Chinese, Korean and Indian.

The Matua Host school for the 2013 ASB Polyfest is James Cook High School. The theme they have selected for this year’s festival is – “The gifts of Paptuanuku are a koha to the people. Cherish and care for them.”
