Bundraiser Day ‘Kneads’ Kiwi Support for Starship
On Saturday 16 March Bakers Delight bakeries around New Zealand will be fundraising for Starship Foundation in their
annual Bundraiser Day event.
Bakers Delight bakeries across New Zealand will bake over 21,000 hot cross buns for Bundraiser Day and will donate $1
from every six-pack sold to support Starship’s Haematology and Oncology Unit – a department providing specialised care
for children and adolescents with cancer or blood disorders.
Bundraiser donations raised will go towards purchasing a Digital Weighing Chair designed to help children receiving
chemotherapy. Chair scales are the most versatile in paediatric oncology as they are mobile and weigh children
accurately throughout treatment.
Natalie James, Charge Nurse Manager of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology at Starship, says accurate medical scales are
one of the most important pieces of equipment in treating children with cancer.
“A child’s weight is used to accurately prescribe chemotherapy and other treatments for cancer,” says James.
“It can also tell us how well they are coping with the nutritional challenges that cancer and its treatment can bring.
We are so grateful to Bakers Delight for their assistance in purchasing this critical piece of equipment.”
Bakers Delight’s New Zealand country manager, Scott Paterson, says he is thrilled to be supporting Starship once again.
“Saturday 16 March is the day we encourage all of our customers to show their support by rising up early to enjoy our
selection of hot cross buns while supporting a very special charity,” said Paterson.
Bakers Delight bakers have been baking fresh hot cross buns every day in the lead up to Easter for 18 years. This year
will be no different with Kiwi’s favourites Traditional, Choc Chip and Fruitless varieties available. Hot Cross Bun six
packs have an RRP of $8.99 or are available individually for $1.80.
