Network conference 2013 – counting down!
Just one month remains to register for the New Zealand Rural General Practice Network’s 2013 conference – the country’s showcase rural health event.
The 2013 conference, scheduled for March 13-17 at the Rotorua Energy Events Centre, carries the theme “Let’s Get Connected”. The conference will feature topics such as the Rural Broadband Initiative and technology in health and will also forge links with rural health and other groups such as the New Zealand Rural Hospital Network (NZRHN) and the newly-formed Rural Health Alliance Aotearoa New Zealand (RHĀNZ).
There’s also a host of pre-conference workshops, concurrent sessions and keynote speakers – in fact something for every member of the practice team: doctors, nurses, practice managers and administrators.
Keynote speakers include Professor Lesley Barclay (Professor and head of Sydney University Centre for Rural Health, School of Public Health), Te Ururoa Flavell (Maori Party MP, Waiariki electorate), Chai Chuah (national director of the National Health Board) and Graeme Osbourne (director, Information Group in the Ministry of Health’s National Health Board business unit) and Henare O’Keefe (Hastings District Council councillor and community advocate) and more.
The popular Nurses’ Forum returns and nurses’ registration for the entire conference drops from $420 to $385 (GST inclusive).
Also returning to the programme is the Pat Farry Rural Health Education Trust Fun Run and Walk. The course for the event – now in its second year – is the Rotorua lakefront offering participants the opportunity to take in the sights, sounds and smells of this unique setting. Southern Cross Primary Care has again kindly sponsored the fun run and walk. Be in on the early morning action, get a fresh start to the day’s programme, and get the t-shirt and a chance to win a prize!
Don't forget that Network Members get a significant discount on the conference registration fee.

RHĀNZ a highlight at Network conference 2013
The conference includes a half day on March 13 dedicated to the newly-formed Rural Health Alliance Aotearoa New Zealand (RHĀNZ). Modelled on the Australian Rural Health Alliance, RHĀNZ brings together medical, nursing, pharmacy and allied health groups, with social and political organisations involved in rural communities to develop policy advice and advocate on behalf of communities with a strong unified cross-sector voice. The RHĀNZ programme will feature keynote speakers, AGM and dinner. Speakers include Professor Lesley Barclay (Professor and head of Sydney University Centre for Rural Health, School of Public Health), Robin Steed (NZ Institute of Rural Health), Linda Clarke (Dairy Women’s Network) and Jeanette Maxwell (Federated Farmers).
