Let the Shave Off
begin!
The clippers are poised and razors are
at the ready, for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand’s
(LBC’s) Shave for a Cure
campaign.
Thousands of Kiwis across the country will shave their heads in Shave Week (March 4 – 10) to raise funds to help 6 Kiwis diagnosed every day with blood cancers – leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma and related blood conditions. Many of these patients suffer hair loss through treatment.
The theme for this year’s Shave for a Cure is the ‘Shave Duel’ where participants are being asked to challenge their friends, colleagues, school mates or rival businesses to raise the most money for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand.
Huffer have also come to the party, and designed a stylish Shave T-shirt, based on the duel theme. These will be given to the first 450 participants that raise $500 for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand.
“Shave provides a fantastic way to really make a difference, and show you care, as so many New Zealanders have been affected by a blood diagnosis,” says Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand’s Chief Executive Officer Pru Etcheverry.
“Shavees organise many fun and original events across the country over Shave Week. Last year we even had a bride shaving on her wedding day!” says Etcheverry.
"I've seen first-hand the wonderful work that Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand does for Kiwis with blood cancers and Shave Week is a great way of supporting that work. I’m hoping to shave Jeremy's hair off too. It shouldn't be hard - he doesn't have much these days," says broadcaster Hilary Barry.
LBC receives no government funding and relies on Shave for a Cure to keep its services free of charge to patients. These include patient support, support and funding for research, providing education and information and advocating on behalf of patients.
Shave Week runs from March 4-10. Shavees can register and establish individual fundraising pages at www.shaveforacure.co.nz
