NorthTec offers new NZIM Diploma in Practice Management (Health) Level 5
NorthTec is excited to offer an innovative new addition to its business studies programme – the New Zealand Institute of Management (NZIM) Diploma in Practice Management (Health) level 5 – as a hands-on management qualification in 2013.
“The qualification is for people working within the health sector. It is ideal for experienced and competent managers who are already managing or administering health and medical practices,” NorthTec’s Programme Leader, Business, Rob Meadows, says.
The NZIM Diploma in Practice Management (Health) is being offered as one-year full time or equivalent part time course and participants are expected to have access to a health practice or any other similar suitable environment as a condition of entry.
Students can enrol this year to study up to six papers as part of their NZIM diploma programme (Accounting Principles, Business Communication, Organisation and Management, Business Computing, Accounting Practices and Human Resource Management) as well as undertaking the actual Management of Health Practices paper which will be available online from the second semester onwards in July..
This specialist paper covers three major areas: The health system and health economics; legislation, regulations and compliance; cultural awareness and safety with an understanding of current health and welfare related issues.
While the normal diploma papers will be available face-to-face at the Whangarei campus, the diploma course is available online or through distance learning throughout New Zealand. Students also have the option of studying the diploma programme through other local NZIM providers.
However, NorthTec will be the only provider in New Zealand of the online Management of Health Practices paper.
“The Practice Managers and Administrators of New Zealand (PMAANZ) and the NZIM who developed the qualification chose NorthTec because we have a strong background in business management training, along with the support we provide the health sector with our Bachelor of Nursing degree,” Mr Meadows says.
He says it is great that NorthTec gained accreditation for the Diploma from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) and NZIM because it is in line with the government’s desire to improve the accreditation quality of management within the wider health sector.
NorthTec is the Tai Tokerau (Northland) region's largest provider of tertiary education, with campuses and learning centres in Whangarei, Kerikeri, Rāwene, Kaikohe and Kaitaia. NorthTec also has over 60 community-based delivery points from Coatesville in rural Rodney to Ngataki in the Far North.
