Changes In Abano’s Dental Group
Changes In Abano’s Dental Group
Abano Healthcare Group Limited today advised recent changes and appointments within its dental group, which consists of Dental Partners, in Australia, and Lumino the Dentists, in New Zealand.
Dental Partners
After almost five years at the helm, the employment of Dental Partners’ Managing Director and CEO, Mike Timoney, has come to an end.
During his tenure, Mike Timoney was responsible for taking Dental Partners from an idea to a very profitable and successful national business, with annualised gross revenues approaching A$100 million, and over 700 people employed across Australia.
Managing Director of Abano Healthcare Group and Chairman of Dental Partners, Alan Clarke, said: “Abano Healthcare Group and the Board of Dental Partners recognise Mike Timoney’s considerable entrepreneurial skills and thank him for his leadership over the past five years. Mike leaves with our thanks and we wish him every success in his new ventures. He will continue to retain an interest in Dental Partners through his shareholding in Abano Healthcare Group.”
During Mike Timoney’s tenure, a strong leadership team was established. Malcolm Lean, the Chief Financial Officer, has been appointed General Manager to co-ordinate the day to day decision making of the executive leadership team, consisting of Dr Tony Bubear (Clinical Director), Cathy May (General Manager Operations), Sophie Harmsworth (Head of Acquisitions) and Melanie Funk (Human Resource Manager), with Alan Clarke who will act as Executive Chairman.
Alan Clarke said: “Abano’s 100% owned trans-Tasman dental group, of over 138 dental practices, is growing at a rate of approximately one acquisition every two weeks. With this growth, there continues to be further opportunities for us to apply clinical best practice and realise trans-Tasman synergies.
“We work in partnership with our dentists, who are at the core of all our development strategies and help develop our dental group’s practice, culture and values. The recent full time appointment of Dr Tony Bubear as Dental Partners’ Clinical Director and Chair of the Clinical Advisory Committee, reinforces this philosophy. Dr Bubear, who will also be appointed as a Director of Dental Partners Pty Limited, is a highly respected Canberra dentist who has moved to Southport, Queensland to take up this senior leadership and clinical advisory role within Dental Partners head office.
“Dr Derry Rogers, a founding shareholder in Dental Partners and a highly respected international lecturer and cosmetic restorative dentist from Melbourne, is taking a clinical leadership role for Dental Partners in Western Australia, to support our entry into this newly emerging market.”
Lumino the Dentists
In New Zealand, Dr Andrea Shepperson has been appointed Chair of the Lumino Clinical Advisory Board, succeeding the founding Chair, Dr Allen Baker, who will continue to practice within the Lumino group. Dr Shepperson is a practicing dentist in Auckland with a widely recognised cosmetic and restorative practice as well as a growing reputation as an international speaker and teacher.
Alan Clarke said: “Abano’s success over the last thirteen years has been to co-invest with clinical partners and highly experienced professional clinicians, be they Radiologists, Pathologists, Dentists, Orthotists or Audiologists. It is important that our clinicians continue to take a leadership role in setting our values, behaviour and culture, and we are pleased to announce these recent appointments within the dental group.”
