All I want for Christmas is…
DentalCare West offers a free Dental Care Day just before Christmas
DentalCare West will hold its second annual Free Dental Care Day this week Friday 21st December 2012, as a gift to improve community access to dental care just before Christmas.
The turnout for the event last year saw 350 people eagerly wait in line from as early as 3am. The 104 people who received dental care had a range of treatments including examinations, fillings and extractions totalling $25,000 worth of free dental services.
Last year Tania and her 80 year old Dad, George, made a 244km journey last year from Kaikohe, Northland arriving to wait at 3am, just to attend the free Dental Care Day. Tania says “My Dad had a toothache and for months couldn’t afford to go to the dentist, so when we heard about the free dental day, we made the drive and it was so worth it. DentalCare West sorted him out for free, it’s such a great thing they do for the community.”
DentalCare West’s owner Dr Scott Waghorn says, “We know that toothaches and dental pain are especially hard to endure, but for some families regular dental care is out of reach. It’s Christmas, so we want to offer a day of free treatment to as many people as we can.”
“We want to make sure people who would otherwise be in pain can enjoy Christmas with their families.”
“We’ll again be offering a variety of basic dental care services including consultations, fillings and extractions,” says Scott. “We know some people get nervous about visiting the dentist because they think it is going to cost them the earth and hurt, but DentalCare West is all about making the experience of caring for your teeth comfortable, affordable and accessible.
Based in West Auckland, DentalCare West’s doors open for Free Dental Care Day at 8am on the 21st December and dental services are free to everyone. They guarantee to see the first 100 people in line. There’s no need to make an appointment, people will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis.
In the spirit of giving, the practice asks people who participate in the free Dental Care Day to bring along two tinned-cans of food, to be donated to Vision West a West Auckland Community Foodbank provider and the Auckland City Mission.
