MEDIA RELEASE
First Quality Accounts published
The first snapshot of the Canterbury Health System’s performance is now available.
The Quality Accounts is an overview of how the Canterbury Health System has been meeting the health needs of the people
in its community during 2011-12.
CDHB has produced the publication ahead of the Health Quality & Safety Commission recommending each District Health Board produces a yearly Quality Account from next year. It will be
produced annually and sit alongside the Canterbury District Health Board’s Financial Accounts.
David Meates, CDHB Chief Executive, says the Canterbury Health System is focused on providing the right care and
support, by the right person, at the right time in the right place. We have a real focus on supporting people to stay
well in the community.
“All of the people who work in the Canterbury Health System play an important role in ensuring we deliver safe and high
quality health services. We are all part of one Canterbury Health System team and together we will make it better for
the people of Canterbury,” Mr Meates says.
“Through the Quality Accounts we have shared with the people of Canterbury our successes, some stories and experiences
of consumers, what we have learnt and our future improvement plans.”
The Quality Accounts focus on:
• The consumer experience
• Reducing alcohol-related harm
• Managing influenza
• Managing avoidable hospital admissions
• Zero harm from falls
• Preventing patients in our hospitals being harmed
• Improving end of life care
The CDHB is welcoming feedback on the Quality Accounts. An electronic version of CDHB’s Quality Accounts is available
