New level of independence marked by International Day of People with a Disability

This year is the 20th anniversary of International Day of People with a Disability (IDPwD). Celebrated this Monday the 3rd December, the day aims to promote the dignity, rights and well-being of people with a disability by highlighting the benefits of their inclusion within the community.

Many assistive technologies are now available to help aid those with a disability to live fulfilling and active lives. Assistive technologies provider, Tunstall Healthcare works closely with community organisations such as Endeavour Foundation to ensure people with a disability have the opportunity to make the choices of an ordinary life.

Health Services Director for Tunstall Healthcare Gary Morgan says, “We are pleased to be partnering in many new and exciting disabilities projects including Endeavour Foundation’s modern accommodation options for people with a disability”

“These new smart houses have recently opened in Brisbane, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, and Gladstone and have been fitted out with Tunstall assistive technologies. A maximum of four people live in each house which ensures greater choice and independence for each individual. Residents are supported by an offsite carer aided by alerts from Tunstall’s emergency response centre,” he said.

According to Leanne Ryan, Customer Operations Manager for Tunstall Healthcare, assistive technologies provide essential support and a sense of independence to many clients and their families.
