Albany Community Gets New School Dental Clinic
Children in Albany will enjoy convenient access to state of the art school dental care following the opening of a new
dental clinic in their area.
The Albany Community Dental Clinic located at Albany Junior High School is the first of four new school dental clinics
planned in Waitemata District Health Board’s 2012/13 financial year.
Officially opened yesterday, the Albany clinic marks the continuation of the DHB’s three year programme to provide
modern, comfortable dental facilities for children and families in its district. Waitemata DHB CEO Dr Dale Bramley says
the new clinic is part of the DHB’s ongoing commitment to providing high quality oral health services – with better
access to those at greatest risk of poor oral health.
“Good oral health and hygiene is an important part of general health. By supporting high quality oral health services
for young people in our district, we are helping set them up for good health later in life.”
The Albany clinic is the eighth to open as part of the DHB’s dental facilities modernisation programme, with three more
clinics in Glen Eden, Westgate and Birkenhead to follow over coming months. There are also currently four new mobile
dental vans and 12 Transportable Dental Units operating in the district.
The clinic in Albany will provide care to children from preschools and schools in the area, along with children enrolled
with a new school in Hobsonville due to open next year. Auckland Regional Dental Service operations manager Helene May
says the new facility is a big step up from the outdated dental clinics of old.
“The new clinic is bright and spacious with room for parents and children to attend appointments together.
“It also comes equipped with x-ray equipment, enabling quick, easy diagnosis of a child’s oral health.”
