Being able to walk the talk a winning formula for success

A Bupa Care Service Operations Manager’s commitment to creating a culture of care for colleagues and residents has been recognised with a leading employer award.

Shaun Brown was presented with the Walk The Talk award at the 2012 Equal Employment Opportunities event in Auckland.

The Midland region Operations Manager’s focus on providing supportive environments for colleagues and residents is reflected in the performance of his 700 people and their facilities.

“The respect Shaun engenders is reflected in employee engagement surveys,” says Bupa Care Home General Manager Grainne Moss. “Ninety six percent of his team say they really enjoy their jobs and this positive endorsement is matched by an increase in occupancy and profitability per bed since he became Operations Manager.”

“He’s also dedicated to delivering exceptional care for our residents and introduced a ‘falls focus’ team to reduce the number of elderly residents taking a tumble.”

A survey of residents and their families in his region showed their satisfaction levels have risen by six percent to 89 percent since Shaun arrived four years ago.

The EEO Trust Work & Life Awards have been showcasing leading employers since their inception in 1998. The Awards have been influential in increasing awareness of the business benefits of supporting diversity and the benefits of helping employees meet their commitments at work and at home.

This years awards had a record number of entries this year with 62 workplace initiatives across five categories. The chair of the EEO Trust Michael Barnett says it was a difficult job for the judges as there were so many inspirational stories about positive programmes.
