What Should We Expect From Our Doctor?
In much of the western world the interfaces between doctors, patients, medicine and the law are not always happy.
The guest this week In Conversation with Noel Cheer on Triangle Television, Ron Paterson, says that part of the trouble
is that we don’t question our doctors sufficiently; that doctors are overloaded by information, demands, complaints and
compliance requirements … and that when a doctor appears less than competent, the loyalty of colleagues shelters him or
her.
Author of "The Good Doctor: What Patients Want", Ron Paterson was the Health and Disability Commissioner for a decade
and is now Professor of Health Law and Policy at the University of Auckland.
