Not Always Darkest Before Dawn
Those with eating issues struggle more in evenings and on weekends.

Evenings and weekends are when people living with disordered eating struggle the most, international research and local
anecdotal research suggests.
“A number of EDEN clients report struggling most with disordered eating behaviours and eating issues after work or
school during the week, and during weekends” says EDEN Counselling Services Manager Victoria Marsden.
“This is partly due to having less structure around mealtimes, more time alone if they live by themselves and less
social interaction with others during these periods”.
Eden is happy to announce they are seeking to address this by offering after hours and weekend counselling sessions.
“If those struggling can attend counselling sessions during times that feel most difficlut to navigate, they will learn
strategies and skills to better cope with those periods weekends and weeknights,” says Marsden.
Disordered eating and eating issues are a growing concern for New Zealand men and women: 54% of New Zealand women say
they set rules about what and when they eat and 86% report thinking about their weight daily.
EDEN has been supporting those struggling with eating and body image issues for over 20 years.
