It’s ‘High Teal’ Time for Gynaecological Cancer
New Zealand Gynaecological Cancer Foundation hosts Auckland and Christchurch events for September Awareness Month
September is Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month and the New Zealand Gynaecological Cancer Foundation (NZGCF) is hosting its first-ever ‘High Teal’ events in Auckland and Christchurch to mark this key month.
The teal colour symbolises gynaecological cancer internationally. ‘High Teal at the Langham’ will be hosted by Shortland Street actor and NZGCF Ambassador Beth Allen in Auckland on Saturday, 8 September. This will be followed by ‘High Teal at The George’ in Christchurch on Sunday, 16 September.
Throughout the month of September NZGCF is asking women to talk about gynaecological health and to become familiar with the symptoms of the main forms of gynaecological cancers – ovarian, uterine, cervical, vaginal and vulval.
“One woman dies every day in New Zealand from these cancers and we are on a mission to significantly reduce that number,” says Michelle Quirk, General Manager of NZGCF.
“Many women are still embarrassed to talk about gynaecological cancers. We want to encourage women to know what is normal for their bodies, be aware of the signs and symptoms of these cancers and to talk to their GP promptly if they feel that something is not right. These ‘High Teal’ events are a great way for women to talk about this important issue in a relaxed and fun environment where they don’t need to feel shy.”
NZGCF is also encouraging New Zealanders to host their own ‘Morning or Afternoon Teal’ at home or work during September to help raise awareness of gynaecological cancers. NZGCF can provide a DVD to show at the event and material for guests to take away.
Tickets for both ‘High Teal’ events will be on sale from Wednesday, 22 August and people can register their interest in advance by emailing info@nzgcf.org.nz. The cost is $70 per person for the Auckland event and $65 for Christchurch.
NZGCF is a registered charity with a mission to inform and educate our community about all forms of gynaecological cancers with the aim of increasing the survival of New Zealand women.
Further information about the symptoms of gynaecological cancer and how you can support the work of NZGCF can be found at www.nzgcf.org.nz.
