Buy a Tree to Remember Loved Ones on Father’s Day
To commemorate Father’s Day, Hospice West Auckland has developed a lovely way to help people honour a loved friend or
family member who has passed away.
As a long lasting memorial, they can purchase a tree which Hospice West Auckland will plant in a special memorial garden
at CUE Haven in Kaukapakapa.
Tree owners will then be able to visit the area where the trees are planted. Cue Haven is a former dairy farm in West
Auckland which is being developed into a forest park.
Volunteers will plant a kahikatea as a special memorial for the friend or family member on Father’s Day, Sunday 2
September.
If they wish, people can come out to Cue Haven on Father’s Day at 2.30pm to plant the tree themselves or generally
assist with the tree planting.

The money raised from the trees will be used by Hospice West Auckland to look after people who are dying.
Hospice West Auckland’s Social Care Manager, Trish Fleming, says that her team works closely with grieving families.
“We have all seen how important it is for people to find personal ways to remember their loved ones. Planting a tree is
a very symbolic way to maintain a connection with someone who has passed away, and many people find it helps their
healing process,” she says.
A list of the names of the people remembered by the tree planting will be recorded on the CUE Haven website.
Hospice West Auckland provides specialist palliative care at no cost to the people of West Auckland. While the service
is partially funded by the government, millions of dollars need to be raised each year to cover the funding shortfall.
