Food industry welcomes focus on exercise and balanced diet
The Food Industry Group (FIG) is encouraged by the Ministry of Health's latest "Food & Nutrition Guidelines for Healthy Children".
FIG Chairman, Lindsay Mouat said "The food industry has highlighted for some time the importance of exercise and a balanced diet as a means of addressing diet-related health concerns. This holistic approach has been recognised in the latest guidelines".
"The Ministry of Health has rightly identified that obesity is a multi-faceted issue, and will be best dealt with by encouraging good food choices together with regular exercise. Iinvolving children in buying food and preparing meals are other positive step that families can take to help teach children about food."
"At the same time, the food industry continues to provide an ever-widening array of product and menu options to help consumers choose a healthy, balanced diet".
