Solid Performance in Health Targets Results
Solid Performance in Health Targets Results
Health targets released today (May 29) reveal more
good news for Hawke’s Bay people with nearly 500 more
patients having faster more efficient access to elective
surgery than a year ago.
In the third quarter
targets released today (May 29) Hawke’s Bay District
Health Board scored 106 percent against a target of 100
percent in the improved access to elective surgery target.
Kevin Snee chief executive said at the same time
last year the DHB was just short of the 100 percent target
at 97percent.The increase to 106 percent this year means 468
more people are having elective surgery than a year
ago.
Dr Snee said the addition of the new seventh
theatre, which will be completed in August, combined with an
elective surgery partnership agreement with private provider
Royston Hospital, means patients will wait less
time.
“While we are pleased with all our health
target results and the improvements made to provide a
quality efficient health service for the Hawke’s Bay
community we haven’t yet reached a point where we are
satisfied.
“One of the next areas of focus will
be strengthening the linkages between the hospital and GPs
and helping GPs access secondary services such as mental
health and district nursing more effectively. The key to a
solid health sector will be a strong community health focus
which is well supported by secondary hospital
services.”
Dr Snee said overall the health target
results reflected the hard work from a very committed staff.
Hawke’s Bay’s Emergency Department continued
to perform well meeting the 95 percent target of patients
admitted, discharged or transferred within six hours for the
second consecutive quarter.
“In the next quarter
we are anticipating an even better ED target result of about
97 percent,” Dr Snee said.
Other improvements
were in the immunisation target which improved on the 95
percent target by one percent hitting 96 percent and being
the second best performing DHB behind
Wairarapa.
The helping smokers to quit target also
improved against last quarter reaching 93 percent of
hospitalised smokers provided with advice and help to quit
just behind the 95 percent target.
Waiting times for cancer treatment remained at the 100 percent target and the new target of more heart and diabetes checks has Hawke’s Bay sitting at 51 percent against a target of 60 percent in the initial provisional data released.
