CCS Disability Action is Pleased with the Extra Funding for Disability
CCS Disability Action, a leading disability organisation, welcomes the Government’s announcement of an extra $143.7
million over the next four years for people with disabilities.
David Matthews, chief executive of CCS Disability Action, said that he was pleased that the Government is continuing to
prioritise disability.
“We are certainly aware that there is less money to go around because of the continued financial instability. Given that
instability, it is encouraging that the Government continues to invest in disabled people.”
Mr Matthews was especially pleased with the increased funding for home and community support services. “We are strong
advocates of community living. An increase in services that help people to live in the community and the home setting of
their choice is a positive development for us.
Mr Matthews said that in an ideal world he would have preferred more spending on early support and intervention for
disabled children.
“I have seen the difference early support services can make for disabled children. Disabled children and their families
face huge challenges and early support services can strengthen families to deal with those challenges. This not only
benefits the family, but also ultimately saves the tax payer money because the families need less support later on.”
Regardless, Mr Matthews was looking forward to seeing the extra funding make a real difference for people with a
disability.
