Boil Water Notice: Malvern Hills - Dalethorpe

Boil Water Notice: Malvern Hills - Dalethorpe

Residents in the Dalethorpe area of the Malvern Hills Rural Water Scheme are advised to immediately begin boiling water.

Water testing has shown unacceptable levels of e.coli, an organism which can cause health issues. People are advised to visit their doctors if they are showing any symptoms, including vomiting and diarrhoea.

The Selwyn District Council has begun chlorinating immediately in affected areas. This will ensure that water is safe to drink, however before chlorination began some bacteria may have been distributed to private tanks.

If people wish to disinfect private tanks, they can contact Council for further information.

The council will continue to monitor the intake and reticulation system and keep residents informed. Chlorination will stop as soon as soon as no bacteria are present.

Council staff wanted to assure other Malvern Hills Water Scheme users in Whitecliffs, Glentunnel, and Coalgate that their water supply was not affected.

The Selwyn District Council website www.selwyn.govt.nz will provide updates.
