Some Child Health Services at Christchurch Hospital temporarily move to accommodate earthquake repairs

Some Children’s Services at Christchurch Hospital have been temporarily relocated to other parts of the hospital to allow for scheduled earthquake repair work this month.

Child Health Service Manager Anne Morgan says the Child Haematology and Oncology Centre (CHOC) have temporarily relocated from Riverside to the Gynaecology Assessment Unit in Christchurch Women’s Hospital and the unit has temporarily moved to the Gynaecology Ward.

“These temporary relocations are a result of the need for earthquake repair and strengthening work to be carried out around doorway entrances to the children’s wards,” Anne says.

The Children’s Wards 21 and 22 have also temporarily combined and the Paediatric High Dependency Unit will be temporarily based in some of the unaffected CHOC rooms.

“The repair work is expected to take about two weeks. We apologise for the disruption this causes to staff, patients and visitors to the hospital. The repair work is part of the scheduled repairs and seismic strengthening work that are being undertaken across Canterbury District Health Board sites.”
