‘Make a date to donate’ this Valentine’s Day
The New Zealand Blood Service is inviting couples to ‘make a date to donate’ this Valentine’s Day and give a gift that’s truly from the heart: the gift of life.
“Donating blood together on Valentine’s Day is a fun way to mark the occasion with your partner, and a more meaningful alternative to many traditional Valentine’s gifts,” says Paul Hayes, NZ Blood Service’s National Marketing and Communications Manager.
“Whether your man needs his hand held, your lady wants to spend more quality time together, or you’re a regular donor eager to share the experience, making a date to donate is an ideal way to celebrate.”
Mr Hayes says there is also a real chance that you or your partner could need donated blood sometime in the future.
A recent survey* revealed more than a third (36%) of people have needed donated blood themselves, or, know a family member or friend that has received blood to help save their life.
“By donating blood now, you can ‘pay it forward’ and give this priceless gift to others in need.”
Please phone 0800 GIVE BLOOD or visit www.nzblood.co.nz to make an appointment for you and your partner to donate together.
Did you know?
• The power of love = a couple’s ‘double donation’ can save up to six lives! (Every single donation has the potential to help save up to three lives.)
• Donating blood may increase your appeal, showing you are caring and generous, both qualities that are often highly sought-after in a partner.
• More than half of active blood donors (56%) plan their donations ahead of time, with many also scheduling joint appointments with partners, family, friends or co-workers.
• Some Asian cultures believe your blood type influences your personality and romantic compatibility. As a blood donor you can find out your blood type, providing great insight if you subscribe to this theory!
