Northland DHB Reviews Radiology Results

Northland DHB is conducting an audit of radiology reports following notification of concerns about the work of a radiologist previously employed by the district health board.

Northland DHB’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Michael Roberts, said that Southern DHB recently raised concerns about a radiologist who started work with them in December 2011. The radiologist had previously worked for Northland DHB between October 2010 and March 2011.

“We began an investigation immediately following notification from Southern DHB and we are taking a cautious approach by re-reporting the radiologist’s work,” said Dr Roberts.

The hospital has already looked at over 750 reports from the last two months the radiologist worked in Northland and is continuing to work back through previous reports.

“So far the review has shown his work in Northland was of the same high standard as his colleagues. While this is reassuring, the hospital will continue to audit reports he has read until confident no patient has been adversely affected,” said Dr Roberts.
