Quality Accreditation for local health services

Te Kupenga Hauora and Te Hunga Manaaki Nursing Service have received the Quality Council Improvement Certificate of Accreditation from Healthcare Aotearoa.

Associate Minister of Health, Tariana Turia attended the celebration at Wairoa Marae in Te Puna on Wednesday 9th November and presented Te Kupenga and Te Hunga Manaaki Nursing Service with their certificates.

“The award of Te Wana quality accreditation represents your commitment to continuous improvement in your pursuit of better outcomes for all your whanau,” said Mrs Turia.

Honey Winter, the Review Programme Manager for Healthcare Aotearoa spoke about the significance of health services gaining the internationally endorsed accreditation and the impact such services have on the wellbeing of communities.

Te Wana is a quality improvement programme that can help organisations to establish a quality management system, develop a culture of reflection and continuous improvement, achieve external accreditation, strengthen its networks, participate in a peer review system and develop its workforce.

A special luncheon was held for all attendees and special guests. The luncheon was jointly prepared by Te Kupenga Hauora Healthy Cooking and Nutrition Support Service and Ngati Kahu Whanau Ora Service and showcased how the two services are working together to deliver better health outcomes to their communities. “Ngati Kahu Whanau Ora Service, as part of their four Healthy Cooking and Nutrition workshops, prepared a lovely healthy lunch that was well received by all who attended the Award ceremony,” said Stephen Cameron, Kai Ora Facilitator for Te Kupenga. The sustainable workshops are run by Stephen, predominantly with Maori at marae. This is part of Healthy Eating, Healthy Action (HEHA), which is supported by Bay of Plenty District Health Board.
