Disability Innovation Fund Good First Step
The disability innovation fund announced on Monday 7th November is cause for “some optimism” says national disability organisation DPA.
It’s widely acknowledged that there is great need for more of the right kinds of jobs for disabled people, says national president Wendy Neilson. A large number of disabled people can’t get or retain employment, so innovative ways to make this different are important.
But there are lots of things we don’t yet know, though- like how long this modest fund ($500,000) will be spread over, or just how it will be run. Disabled people strongly believe is “nothing about us without us without us”, so we’re keen to hear how disabled people and their organisations will be part of deciding about it.
We’ve now got a chance to do something positive with the partnerships we’ve been building, says Wendy Neilson, so we hope more disabled people will find real work through the fund’s support.
