Diseases no one wants to talk about

Diseases no one wants to talk about

9 November 2011

A poster featuring a large toilet doesn’t usually attract a lot of people, but it caught the eye of 60 people who came to Dr Richard Stein’s public forum on Inflammatory Bowel Disease last month. Dr Stein is hoping for a similar turnout at the next forum, this time on Hepatitis C.

“It’s always a challenge holding a public forum about ‘the diseases no one wants to talk about’,” says Dr Stein. “It’s been great to see the level of interest, and the response of people has often been one of relief that the conditions are being openly discussed.”

“There are many questions people want answers to, but are often afraid to ask. They range from ‘how do I get it and am I at risk?’ to ‘can my children or partner get it from me, can it be cured?’ and of course, ‘can I die from it?’” says Dr Stein.

Everyone is welcome to this free session, where Hepatitis C speciality nurses George Smith and Annie Gibson will also present and be there to answer questions.

The forum is sponsored by Roche Laboratories and the Hepatitis Foundation.
Location: the Gateway Motor Inn, Chapel Street.
Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
